Abstract

A civil public interest law suit was initiated alongside criminal proceedings against a trading company and responsible individuals for failing to implement legally required anti-pollution measures and illegally discharging oily sewage from a vessel into the Yangtze River and offshore natural waters. 

The Primary People's Court of Xuanwu District of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province found the trading company and the individuals guilty of environmental pollution. The Defendant Xiang appealed and the Intermediate People's Court of Nanjing City rejected the appeal and affirmed the judgment of the court of first instance.
